Mount Vesuvius eruption and products formedMount Vesuvius is the volcano that wiped out Pompeii on August 24th 79 A.D. The big eruption blew lava, poison gas, ashes and rocks up to twenty miles into the atmosphere. The poison gases engulfed the city of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae. The sky turned black, because of the hot rock got mixed with the air in Pompeii and blocked the sun. When the rock got cooled down, it became less dense, resulting it to fall down on the people and buildings as solidified lava, ash and rain. The ash and the magma collided in the air, causing volcanic lightening. As the eruption continued, the magma chamber eventually got empty and collapsed. This resulted dense hot ashes (pyroclastic flow) explode from the volcano vent and travel towards Pompeii at a speed of 100 kilometres an hour along with the toxic gases and ashes which killed many. After 16 hours, pyroclastic flames came down, destroying everything in it's way, turning humans into statues straight away. It buried Pompeii in 25 metres of volcanic rock and ash. The weight of all the things fallen on Pompeii added up to 4 billion tons.
