Shield VolcanoThis kind of Volcano is built almost entirely of fluid lava flows. It is the widest kind of volcano out of the three. It is not steep, like the opposite of a composite volcano. It has the shape of shield. When it erupts, the lava does not explode from the vent/s, instead, the lava gently pours out in all directions from the vent/s. The lava inside of a shield volcano is widely spread, sometimes the distance between lavas extend to 50 kilometres.

Composite VolcanoThis kind of volcano is called the composite volcano or the stratovolcano, it's call composite volcano because it's built of layers of ash, solidified lava and rocks. Composite volcanoes are usually larger than cinder cone volcanoes. It can have more than one vent. The eruption of this kind of volcano is very explosive. They have a wide base and very steep sides, they have a crater. An example of this volcano is Mount Fuji in Japan. They are larger than cinder cones, rising up to 8,000 feet (2,438 meters).

Mount Vesuvius vs Mauna LoaMount Vesuvius is a composite volcano. This type of volcano forms over hundreds of thousands of years by eruptions. The products formed from the eruptions like ash, solidified lava, rocks and pyroclastic flows build up layer by layer until the volcano reaches thousands of meters tall.
Compared to Mauna Loa, the biggest volcano. Mount Vesuvius formed by products from eruptions building up. Mauna Loa forms from the magma inside the Earth reaching the surface, and becomes lava, ash and volcanic gasses. Over eruptions, the volcano builds up, layer by layer. |
